The Northwest Saga Continues
A few weeks ago we had
an article about the work Jessica and Doug Rupp are doing to bring
their wilderness homestead into the technical age (see
Across the River and Through the Woods). There was a lot of
interest and so Jessica has been kind enough to provide a couple
more pictures of their adventures.

The art of going to school
Previously we posted

her logo projects here's what we got. Good job Ayrian!

Shawndra
and Paul's booming mail business recently received a new look.
Shawndra's
sister, Ayrian, who is currently attending the Seattle Art Institute,
designed a new logo for them. It looks great and deserves front page
attention.

Chantry Betts Scholarship
winner announced
November, 2001
Earlier this year, Jaqui and Bartly picked the
winner of the Chantry Betts Scholarship from the graduating class of
the Rosemary Academic School.
The selection was easy because there was only one
student who applied this time as the graduating class was very
small (seven). The winner was Elizabeth Blumell, the daughter of a Rosemary
teacher. Although there was only one
applicant this year, we were extremely pleased with her credentials.
Elizabeth easily met and exceeded all of the scholarship requirements. The winner
last year was Lee Kern, son of Carl and Sherri Kern.
The scholarship provides $2,500 per year for a
maximum of 4 years to each winner. popular

The Utah Betts
We've recently gotten some pictures from Eric
(formerly Corbin for you old-time folk) and Misse who live in Salt
Lake City. Eric is a camera man for the local Fox New channel and
Misse is a nurse (part time) at the Children's hospital.

John Wayne visits Tin
Horse Ranch

When
John Wayne came to visit Bartly and Jaqui's 23 acre ranch (near
Snohomish, Washington) this summer (Tandy and Eric are living
there and holding the place down for us currently) he wanted to
take a ride in Eric's project car. You can't imagine how tickled
he was when Eric let him drive. That's Eric who was riding with
Duke.
Elvis has put in a request for an invitation to
visit as well, so we'll let you know when he arrives.

November, 2001
According to information from my brother Colin, his
son Loren will be traveling to Taipei, Taiwan this December. Loren's
employer, Aligent is sending him to give a paper and visit some
clients to provide them with technical help and train them in the
testing company equipment. Matthew Gibb in Russia
November, 2001
Some of you will remember the Don and Carol Gibb
family in Rosemary. Their son Matthew is currently in the city of
Pern, Russia on a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-Day Saints. Pern is a city of about
one million people. Lena Betts Pacy visits
Doris,
Jaqui, and Bartly Betts
November, 2001
In November, Lenna (Betts) Pacy, her son John Pacy
and his wife Carol, their daughter Ruth, and her two children came
to visit Doris, Jaqui, and Bartly.
The trip was mainly for Lenna (my father's sister)
who, although 92 years old and in a wheel chair, is traveling Canada
and the US to visit relatives. They went to Rosemary and other
Alberta locations earlier this year. After their visit, they
continued south for additional visits.
The Pacy's could only stayed for a couple of
hours, but we had a very nice visit.
Jaqui and my Dad went to British Columbia several
times to visit Lenna over the years since we moved to Kirkland. I
went with them once, and since then Jaqui and I have made one visit.
It was great to welcome them to our home as it isn't too often the
Betts relatives visit.
The bettsclan.com
website
springs to life
November, 2001
Thanks to Kadin, the
bettsclan.com website began operations November 11, 2001.
As it happens, Kadin has a friend in the web
hosting business and for an exceptionally reasonable rate we now
have our own family website.
All members and relatives of the Howard and Doris
Betts family are encouraged to send photos, letters, and email
messages that can be used to keep everyone up to date.
Big Ugly
rolls along
It's not really
news, or at least it's not late-breaking news, but I thought
those who have never seen it might enjoy a look at Eric's and
Bartly's "Big Ugly." We bought the truck to use at the
"ranch" about three years ago, and Eric has been working on it
off and on since. He's built a new bed, overhauled and rebuilt
the brakes, painted the frame, tuned the engine, replaced aging
parts, and so on. He's even washed and waxed the cab. She's a
beauty, eh? [Click the picture to view
