The invitation

The chimpanzee wrinkled his brow
and thought a little bit.
He’d been invited to the human race,
and he wondered if he’d fit.

Then, with a little grin, above his chin,
he gave this wise reply.
“I’m willing to come, if you’ll give me some gum,
and a slice of banana pie.”
