The measure of a man's real
character is what he would do if he
knew he would
never be found out.
—Thomas B. Macaulay
There are two ways of spreading light: be the candle or
the mirror that reflects it. —Edith Warton
Character is what a man is in the dark.
What lies behind us…
What lies before us
Are small matters
Compared to
What lies within us.
—Ralph Waldo Emerson

Things,
compiled by Tony D. Burton for the Make a Wish Foundation)
Mr. Burton asked many famous (and not so famous) people
to write down some of their favorite things for this book.
Why not begin your own collection? Start by
writing a few of your favorite things down in your journal. Ask other
members of your family, some of your friends, and others that you admire
to give you a list of theirs. Part of the "fun" is having the list in
their own handwriting, so don't let them get off easy by listing them
off verbally. I promise, you'll be surprised at their responses and what
you learn about these wonderful people. |
